Samsung Co-CEO Han Jong-Hee Passes Away at 63 from Cardiac Arrest, Leaving Legacy in Consumer Electronics Leadership
Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee passed away on Tuesday at the age of 63 due to cardiac arrest, a company spokesperson confirmed.
Han, who was born in 1962, had led Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices businesses since 2022. That same year, he was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO alongside Jun Young-Hyun, who oversees the company’s semiconductor division.
In an internal message, Samsung honored Han’s 37-year tenure, highlighting his leadership in making the company’s TV business a global powerhouse and navigating challenges in the electronics and appliances sectors.
“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the company stated.
Han chaired Samsung’s annual investor meeting last week, where he apologized for the company’s stock performance and warned of economic uncertainties in 2025. He emphasized Samsung’s commitment to pursuing mergers and acquisitions to drive growth despite regulatory hurdles.
A graduate of Inha University with a degree in electrical engineering, Han joined Samsung in 1988 and previously led its display operations before taking charge of its consumer electronics division.
No announcement has been made regarding his successor.
