Osun Governor Establishes Holding Camps for Displaced Residents as Communal Clashes Intensify, Extends Curfew to 24 Hours Amid Heightened Security

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the establishment of holding camps for residents displaced by the recent communal clashes in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.

The governor reaffirmed that the 24-hour curfew remains in effect, with heightened security surveillance in the affected areas.

The conflict, which began as a boundary dispute between Ifon and Ilobu on Friday, escalated to Erin Osun on Saturday, leading to casualties and widespread destruction. The state government responded by upgrading the initial 12-hour curfew to a 24-hour lockdown. Many residents fled to neighboring towns, including Okinni, Osogbo, and Ido Osun.

A statement from Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday confirmed that the camps would complement ongoing relief efforts, including the distribution of food and essential supplies. The State Emergency Agency has been tasked with setting up and managing the camps, with security agencies screening displaced persons before relocation. The agency is also seeking additional support from NEMA.

Governor Adeleke praised security forces for swiftly acting on his orders to arrest and prosecute the ringleaders behind the violence. He insisted that all culprits must be held accountable and charged in court without delay.
