President Tinubu Flags Off 465km Calabar-Abuja Superhighway, Promises Timely Completion as Leaders Hail Project as a Game-Changer for South-East and National Unity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially flagged off the construction of the 465-kilometre Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja Superhighway. A major infrastructure project set to boost connectivity across several states.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Wednesday at Amuro Primary School in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. President Tinubu, who was represented by Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, expressed gratitude to the people of the South-East for their consistent support and urged them to remain committed.
He assured that the ambitious road project would be delivered on schedule and in line with set specifications.
Describing the superhighway as a transformative development for the region, Governor Nwifuru said, “This project is a game-changer. It marks the end of isolation and the beginning of a new era of connectivity, opportunity, and economic growth.”
Nwifuru emphasized the project’s significance for Ebonyi State, highlighting benefits such as improved market access for farmers, reduced transport costs for traders, safer travel for students, and job creation for the youth.
“This initiative is not just a road project; it’s a bold statement of inclusion and national development under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the governor said.
Also speaking at the event, Minister of Works David Umahi praised President Tinubu as a unifying leader with a genuine commitment to all regions.
“This is a legacy project, and the President has ensured that such projects are fairly distributed across the country,” Umahi said.
He pointed out that Tinubu had reversed years of neglect in the South-East, noting that meaningful federal projects were already being delivered in the region.
“We have every reason to be grateful. President Tinubu is a leader who truly has the South-East at heart,” Umahi added.
