Adeleke, Makinde Meet in Ibadan to Resolve Osun-Oyo Boundary Dispute Amid Rising Clashes Between Iwo and Lagelu Communities

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has revealed that he met with his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, to seek a peaceful resolution to the ongoing boundary dispute between their states.

The meeting follows recent tensions after the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, raised concerns over violent clashes between residents of Oke Oba in Iwo and those from Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State. Oba Akanbi accused land grabbers from Lagelu of attacking several Iwo communities, including Ogunajo, Eleye, Molamu, Paku, Ejemu Oja, and others.

He urged the governors to revisit the 1991 boundary map, which was established when Osun State was created from the old Oyo State.

In a statement released in Osogbo on Thursday, the spokesperson for Governor Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that the two governors met at Governor Makinde’s Ibadan residence to discuss the matter. The meeting resulted in an agreement to prioritize peaceful dialogue and resolve all pending issues.

Both governors have directed their deputy governors to engage community leaders from Lagelu and Iwo, and to visit the disputed areas. They also extended the directive to include other recurring boundary issues, such as the one involving Orolu Local Government and parts of Ogbomoso.

They jointly called for an end to cross-border attacks, emphasizing the need for due process and the rule of law in addressing disputes.

Meanwhile, the National Boundary Commission, which earlier visited the disputed areas to gather data, is yet to release its report—leaving a vacuum that is reportedly fueling the conflict.

Communities on both sides have reported fresh attacks in recent weeks, heightening tensions in the affected areas.
