Osun Amotekun Rearrests Escaped Police Detainee During Robbery, Parades Other Suspects for ₦14M Theft and Cable Vandalism
The Osun State Amotekun Corps has rearrested a 26-year-old suspect, John Uba, who previously escaped from police custody in the Ota-Efun Division, Osogbo.
Parading suspects arrested for various crimes on Friday, the Commander of the Corps, Isaac Omoyele, revealed that Uba was caught during an armed robbery operation in the Fiwasaye area of Osogbo in the early hours of April 17, 2025.
“Acting on intelligence at about 12:03 a.m., our officers swiftly moved to the scene and arrested John Uba for stealing mobile phones and other valuables,” Omoyele said. “Further investigation revealed that the suspect had earlier escaped from police custody and is a known repeat offender.”
Uba has since been handed back to the Ota-Efun Police Division for further investigation and prosecution.
Also paraded were three suspects — Idowu Tajudeen (27), Bamanga Joffrey (24), and Femi Adeniyi (22) — accused of burglary and theft at the GRA area of Osogbo. The trio allegedly stole a pumping machine and other items worth about ₦8.5 million. Omoyele stated that the suspects confessed during interrogation.
In another case, Amotekun operatives arrested Aderemi Sheriff, 28, for cable theft at Hammed Omidiran University, Kolabalogun area of Osogbo. Acting on a distress call, officers nabbed Sheriff while his accomplice fled. Omoyele disclosed that part of the stolen cable had already been set ablaze before the team’s arrival. Sheriff, an ex-convict, also admitted to multiple past offences.
With over 1,450 personnel now on ground, Omoyele affirmed the Corps’ renewed commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Osun State.
