A Four-storey building under construction on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State collapsed early Saturday morning, leaving an unspecified number of people trapped beneath the debris.
The structure, which also housed the popular EqualRight Restaurant, caved in around 8 a.m., taking both occupants and passersby by surprise.
Eyewitnesses told NEWS REVIEW that the exact cause of the collapse remains unknown, but signs of structural failure had long been evident. “Anyone who knows that building should know it was a bomb waiting to explode,” one source said under the condition of anonymity. “I hardly went there to buy food because I was always scared it would collapse while I was inside.”
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) have since arrived at the scene and commenced rescue operations as they await reinforcement from other government agencies.
Meanwhile, residents and onlookers have gathered at the site, anxiously hoping for positive updates on those still trapped under the rubble.
