Fresh Boko Haram Attack Rocks Gwoza Headquarters in Borno State

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a fresh assault on Gwoza local government headquarters in Borno State late Friday night, causing panic among residents.

The attack comes just a day after insurgents stormed Yamtake village—about 14km from Gwoza—killing two soldiers and an unknown number of civilians.

According to eyewitnesses, the Gwoza invasion began around 11:08 p.m., with troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle as residents fled for safety.

Heavy gunfire and explosions rocked the town overnight, and as of press time, the number of casualties remains unknown.

Gwoza was previously a stronghold of Boko Haram before it was recaptured by military forces a few years ago.
