Tension has engulfed the Ogwashi-Uku community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State following the abduction of four children on Sunday, allegedly by suspected child traffickers.
Among the missing children are two siblings, identified as Ebube and Miracle. The incident occurred in the Umuokwe quarters of the town, where three unidentified women had recently secured emergency accommodation.
According to community sources, the women reportedly lured the children from their homes with promises of buying them biscuits from a nearby shop. Concern arose when the children were nowhere to be found around the compound.
“When the neighbours checked the apartment, it was completely empty. The women and the children had vanished,” a source said.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating that the landlady who rented the apartment to the suspects has been arrested and is currently in custody.
“The children were abducted three days after the women moved in,” Edafe said. “Unfortunately, there is no traceable information. The landlady gave out the apartment without collecting any details—no names, no phone numbers, no written agreement. Now, four children are missing.”
He added that the landlady’s actions have raised suspicion, hence her arrest.
As investigations continue, fear and uncertainty grip the Ogwashi-Uku community, with hopes pinned on the swift recovery of the children and the arrest of the perpetrators.
