Fuji music legend, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, famously known as K1 De Ultimate, has boldly declared himself the leading force behind the rise and formal establishment of the Fuji music genre in Nigeria.

In a pre-recorded interview with Agbaletu TV released on Wednesday, K1 revealed that he registered the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and solely authored the association’s constitution.

“People say Wasiu is not good, but I did everything,” he said. “God used me to do many things for Fuji music. What have I been paid with? These are things I didn’t want to speak about before now.”

He recounted forming the Constitution Drafting Committee at his residence, naming Fancia Alamu, Muhideen Ashekun, Waheed Akangbe (interim president), and Kolotiti (secretary) as members. The meeting, he noted, was supervised by his lawyer, Shola Abidakun, with his personal secretary compiling the discussions.

K1 lamented how critics who label him negatively often forget his instrumental role in shaping Fuji music into what it is today.

Addressing rumors about his alleged disrespect to the late Fuji pioneer, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, K1 maintained that he never insulted his mentor. He clarified that a fellow musician made the remark at a concert he attended, which led to his own name being wrongly dragged into the controversy.

He also blamed Barrister’s former aides for escalating the misunderstanding, insisting that his relationship with the late icon remained respectful.

Speaking on how he became the King of Fuji, K1 said his coronation was a result of a dispute between Barrister and Kolawole Kollington, prompting event organizers to pick him as a neutral choice.

He also denied claims that he received any financial support from the Federal Government for his mother’s burial ceremony.
