A popular TikTok content creator, Emmanuel Ajibade, was on Thursday arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court over allegations of cyberbullying an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, told the court that Ajibade and others still at large, committed the offence at the Higher Height Area, Orita Obele in Akure. He alleged that the defendant conspired to commit cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and criminal defamation.
According to Oniyere, Ajibade used the TikTok account checkers69 to circulate false information intended to cause annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insults, and defamation. The content reportedly caused intimidation, hatred, and emotional distress to one Ibitoye Samuel, an FRSC official in the state.
The offence, he said, violates Section 27(b) and Section 24(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act, 2015.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand Ajibade in a correctional facility, citing Section 269 (2)(b) of the Nigerian laws. However, the defendant’s counsel, Mr. A. F. Awala, requested a short adjournment to enable the defence file a counter affidavit.
Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi, ordered that Ajibade be remanded at the SWAT Police Station. She also directed the police to ensure his medical needs are attended to and adjourned the case to April 30, 2025, for mention.
