The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disowned a fraudulent bank account used to scam candidates by demanding N15,700 for rescheduling the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement released on Thursday, JAMB’s Spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, raised alarm over the scam linked to Sterling Bank account number 8520641017, operated under the name “Copyrightwriter Personal J Rescheduling Flw.”
“We issue this urgent notice to inform the public about this nefarious scheme targeting candidates who were unable to participate in the UTME,” Benjamin stated. “Some unscrupulous individuals are deceitfully soliciting payments under the false pretence of offering rescheduling services for the examination.”
He clarified that the perpetrators have no ties to JAMB or any legitimate government body.
“This is a blatant scam, and we are confident that the public will not fall prey to such cheap and regressive tactics,” he added. “The account details are entirely fictitious and exist solely for the purpose of fraud. We call on Sterling Bank to take swift action against this criminal activity.”
JAMB has reported the case to security agencies and is actively tracking those involved.
Benjamin emphasized that JAMB does not reschedule exams for candidates who miss their tests for reasons not caused by the Board. However, those who missed the exam due to biometric verification failures are being investigated, and eligible candidates will be allowed to retake the exam at no cost.
“No payments are required. JAMB does not charge fees after registration is completed,” he said, urging candidates to stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.
