A Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) has sentenced Andrew Ominikoron, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, to death by hanging for the murder of 22-year-old fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwola.

Justice Sherifat Sonaike delivered the judgment on Friday.

Ominikoron, 47, was arraigned by the Lagos State Government in March 2022 on a four-count charge bordering on rape, conspiracy, sexual assault, and murder.

According to the charge, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. on February 26, 2022, near the Lekki-Ajah Conservation Expressway. The prosecution stated that Ominikoron conspired with others still at large to forcefully have sexual intercourse with Bamise before murdering her.

Although he pleaded not guilty, Ominikoron admitted during his testimony that he illegally picked up Bamise at Chevron bus stop while returning to Oshodi after offloading passengers along the Oshodi-Ajah route.
