A tragic incident struck the quiet community of Isseke in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State on Thursday night, as unknown gunmen brutally murdered a family of four in their sleep.

The victims—three women and an elderly man—were found lifeless in their apartment after the assailants stormed the building while they slept and carried out the gruesome act. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.

Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident on Friday, identifying the victims as members of the family of Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo from Ekwuru Isseke, also known as Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke.

Ikenga noted that a joint security team comprising the police, military, and other operatives has cordoned off the area to forestall further violence. He added that the victims’ bodies have been deposited in a morgue while investigations are ongoing.

“Preliminary information revealed that the criminals unprovokedly attacked the elderly man and his family members,” he said.

While condoling with the bereaved family, Ikenga assured that the command is following up on promising leads to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also stated that security has been reinforced in the area as efforts to track down the attackers continue.
