Rabat, Morocco – Nigerian hurdler and world record holder Tobi Amusan stormed to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco, clocking an impressive 12.24 seconds, a season’s best and new meet record.
The 28-year-old shattered the previous record of 12.51 seconds set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018, securing her first major win of the 2025 season and reasserting her status as a top contender ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo.
Amusan had started her 2025 campaign with back-to-back fourth-place finishes in Xiamen and Shanghai. She also clinched a win at Jamaica’s Velocity Fest 16 in March, though against a less competitive field.
Her Rabat triumph marks a major turnaround following a disappointing end to her 2024 season, where she failed to reach the final at the Paris Olympics.
Speaking after the race, Amusan credited her improved performance to a renewed focus on hurdles training.
“More hurdles practice, because I had been doing more sprinting. After the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills. Two weeks in, I can tell the difference,” she said.
With the hurdles excluded from the Doha meet, Rabat became a critical stage for Amusan’s resurgence and she delivered in style.
