President Bola Tinubu will on Saturday, May 31, inaugurate Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of his working visit to Lagos, the Presidency announced on Monday.
The coastal highway, a flagship project of Tinubu’s administration, will be commissioned alongside other major infrastructure developments. These include the Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, the flag-off of Section II of the same highway, and the launch of the 7th Axial Road.
According to Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu will also virtually inaugurate key road projects in northern Nigeria. These include the Kano-Kanwar-Danja-Hadejiya Section II, Yakasai-Zalli Road, Kano Northern By-pass, Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Section I, Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi, and the Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya Section III.
The President’s Lagos visit, starting Tuesday, will also feature his participation in the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which he currently chairs. The golden jubilee, first flagged off in Accra in April, will continue in Lagos with a symbolic reenactment of the 1975 declaration at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island.
Tinubu will deliver a keynote address at Eko Hotels and Suites, highlighting ECOWAS’s milestones. He will be joined by Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), the only surviving Head of State who signed the founding declaration, who will deliver a commemorative speech.
Also expected are the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, who will give the welcome address, and former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, who will lead a historical review of the regional bloc’s journey, supported by expert panel discussions at the NIIA.
The President will observe Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the State House, Dodan Barracks, before returning to Abuja.
