The Delta State Government has announced a new date for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), originally scheduled to hold from June 9 to 13.

According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Daniel Akiri, on behalf of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, the examination will now take place from June 16 to 20 in both public and private secondary schools across the state.

The shift, the statement explained, follows the Federal Government’s declaration of public holidays on June 6 and June 9, to observe Eid-ul-Adha and Democracy Day celebrations respectively.

“We regret the inconveniences the development, especially the change of the earlier date, might have caused,” the ministry added.

NEWS REVIEW notes that the BECE is a crucial national exam for students completing Junior Secondary School (JSS 3), marking the end of Nigeria’s nine-year Basic Education phase. The exam, conducted by NECO and state education ministries, assesses readiness for Senior Secondary School (SSS 1) or vocational paths and covers subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Basic Science.
