The Ogun State Housing Corporation has issued a seven-day eviction notice to unauthorized occupants of its housing estates across the state, instructing them to vacate and dismantle any illegal structures.
This was announced by the Corporation’s General Manager, Wale Ojo, on Friday during a development control and enforcement exercise at the Idiroko Housing Estate in Ipokia Local Government.
Ojo stated that the notice aligns with section 7 (1) of the Ogun State Housing Corporation Law 2006. He clarified that the exercise aims to identify unapproved developments, address non-compliance with approved plans, ensure appropriate land use, and verify that constructions are properly positioned according to the layout design, among other objectives.
Ojo cautioned that failure to adhere to the Corporation’s directive would result in the demolition of the illegal structures, with occupants facing prosecution and being charged for the removal costs.
The Corporation’s Director of Survey, Bunmi Oladeinde-Oluwakemi, emphasized that one of the agency’s main responsibilities is to identify substandard or illegal buildings. She added that the Corporation would consider documents or complaints from occupants before proceeding with demolition.
Oladeinde-Oluwakemi urged residents to consult the appropriate government authorities before purchasing land in the state.
On behalf of the estate residents, the Chairman of Ifeloju Community Development Association, Idiroko Ikolaje, Chief Babatunde Taiwo, expressed willingness to comply with the Corporation’s directive but requested an extension of the notice period.
