Mr. Akinwunmi Fasakin, the Sector Commander of the Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has proposed a collaboration with the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) for an initiative called “Operation Show Me Your Driver’s Licence.”

Fasakin made this suggestion during a courtesy visit to OGIRS Executive Chairman, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, on Friday.

He praised OGIRS’s leadership for their ongoing cooperation with the FRSC, but also pointed out that some vehicle owners lack proper licences, which contributes to lower road tax revenue.

The proposed enforcement exercise, “Operation Show Me Your Driver’s Licence,” will require drivers to visit OGIRS to pay for their licences, as well as clear any outstanding licence backlogs.

In response, Olaleye expressed OGIRS’s readiness to work with the FRSC to enforce regulations on driver and vehicle licences, ensuring that vehicle owners fulfill their obligations to the government.

He explained that the enforcement initiative aims to ensure all vehicle owners hold valid driver’s licences. He also mentioned OGIRS’s efforts to raise public awareness about timely tax payments through various media channels.

Olaleye further urged the FRSC to address delays in issuing driver’s licence certificates, which have taken longer than necessary.

He stated, “This joint enforcement strategy, led by the FRSC, will increase revenue. It is not intended to target anyone unfairly but to generate funds for national development.”

Mrs. Oluyomi Dawodu, Director of Other Taxes at OGIRS, thanked the FRSC for the visit and requested an increase in the production of number plates to ensure availability for car owners.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Ayodele Popoola, Head of Road Taxes at OGIRS; Mrs. Rabiat Olanrewaju, Sector Head of Driver’s Licence at FRSC, Oke-Mosan Unit; and Mr. Olumide Familoni, National Vehicle Identification Scheme Officer at FRSC.
