When Paul and Peter Okoye of the Psquare musical duo reunited in 2021 after a five-year split, fans were ecstatic. The reunion sparked celebrations, with fans and friends both locally and internationally popping champagne in jubilation. To mark the occasion, the brothers embarked on a 100-city reunion world tour, covering North America, Europe, the UK, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
They followed up the reunion with the release of their single “Jaiye,” which saw the Okoye brothers reestablishing their place in the Nigerian music industry. The song blended their signature pop and dance style with an amapiano sound, to much acclaim.
However, despite the positive momentum, rumors have emerged that Psquare is once again embroiled in a conflict that could threaten the group. In a recent interview, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, confirmed the group’s breakup, attributing the latest fallout to his twin brother Peter’s decision to leave the group. He also accused Peter of involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have him arrested.
Paul expressed disappointment that the issues from their past have resurfaced, despite his hopes to avoid repeating past mistakes. He mentioned that the current conflict stems from creative differences over their music.
On the other hand, Peter Okoye has denied these claims, raising concerns about a secret company, Northside Music, allegedly owned by their brother Jude Okoye and his wife Ifeoma. In an open letter, Peter, also known as Mr. P, accused his twin brother of consistently undermining his contributions to the group they co-founded.
As the feud continues, efforts have been made to resolve the situation. Recently, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in last year’s election, visited Peter Okoye after a similar visit to Paul in an attempt to mediate. Additionally, musician Charly Boy has urged the brothers to settle their differences privately, advising them not to air their grievances on social media.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Charly Boy, also known as Areafada, emphasized the importance of the brothers resolving their issues quietly. He noted, “If you have a twin by your side, you are indeed fortunate. Resolve your troubles without broadcasting them publicly. It makes you look childish. Handle it privately.”
