Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and The Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced that Tuesday, 20th August 2024, will be a work-free day in honor of this year’s Isese Day celebration.
The announcement was made in a circular titled “Commemoration of Year 2024 Isese Day – Declaration of Work-Free Day,” issued on Monday by the state’s Head of Service, Bode Agoro.
The circular explained that the holiday reflects Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions and promoting the preservation of cultural heritage.
It also instructed public servants to return to work on Wednesday, 21st August 2024, at 8:00 a.m.
The circular stated, “It is hereby announced that this Year’s Isese Day Celebration will take place on Tuesday, 20th August 2024.
“In a show of support for traditional institutions and the promotion of Indigenous traditions by preserving cultural heritage, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved Tuesday, 20th August 2024, as a Work-Free Day for public servants in the state.
“Work will resume on Wednesday, 21st August 2024, at 8:00 a.m.
“All Accounting Officers are directed to take note of this Circular and ensure it receives wide publicity within the Service.”
This marks the first time the Lagos State Government has declared a public holiday for Isese Day, following the United Nations’ designation of 20th August as World Traditional Religion Day.
