The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported on Saturday that four people lost their lives in multiple road accidents in Ikeji-Arakeji, a town along the Ilesa/Akure expressway in Osun State.
Additionally, 20 other passengers were injured in the accidents, which involved three vehicles.
In a 2-minute 5-second video recorded at the scene, obtained by our correspondent, one of the vehicles involved was seen on fire, with some injured passengers lying near the burning vehicle.
Three of the injured passengers were in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniforms, and many others were seen wearing blood-soaked clothes.
When contacted for confirmation and further details, FRSC Osun Sector Commander, Mr. Taofeek Sokunbi, confirmed that the accident was caused by speeding.
Sokunbi stated that three female passengers and one male passenger died in the crash, explaining, “The accident involved three vehicles, resulting in four deaths and 20 injuries.
The victims include three adult females and one adult male.”
He further explained, “The cause of the accident was excessive speed.
The vehicles involved were two buses and one truck. The accident occurred near speed bumps in Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State.”
“The accident happened about three days ago (Thursday). We have since cleared the crash site.”
Sokunbi urged drivers to exercise caution on the road, emphasizing that “overspeeding and driver carelessness were responsible for the accident.”
