On Sunday, Barcelona announced that captain Sergi Roberto, 32, has departed the club after 14 seasons with the Catalan giants. His contract, which expired at the end of June, had not been renewed until now.

Midfielder Sergi Roberto, who graduated from Barcelona’s La Masia academy, made his first-team debut in 2010.

In 2017, he became an unexpected hero during Barcelona’s remarkable 6-1 comeback victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Round of 16, scoring the final and decisive goal after PSG had won 4-0 in the first leg.

“After 373 matches, 25 trophies, and a memorable goal, the player who joined La Masia at 14 is departing the club,” Barcelona said in a statement.

Sergi Roberto scored 19 goals for Barcelona and secured two Champions League titles and seven La Liga championships, among other honors.

In recent seasons, the versatile Spain international primarily played as a right-back, though he also stepped in to cover other positions as needed.
