BREAKING: Nigerian Government Raises NYSC Graduate Scheme Allowance from N33,000 to N77,000

The Nigerian government has officially approved a significant raise in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.

In a press release issued on Wednesday night by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, it was announced that corps members’ monthly stipend will now be set at N77,000, up from the previous N33,000.

According to the statement, the increase will take effect from July 2024, in line with the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024.

The release stated: “The Federal Government has sanctioned the adjustment of Corps Members’ monthly allowance to Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira (N77,000), effective from July 2024.“This adjustment aligns with the recently enacted National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.

“This update was conveyed through a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated 25th September 2024, and signed by the Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.

“Previously, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had made an advocacy visit to the Commission’s Chairman, urging for an enhanced welfare package for Corps Members.

“The NYSC Director General expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for this timely decision, believing it will not only provide relief to the Corps Members but also boost their morale, motivating them to further contribute to the nation.

“Prior to this increase, Corps Members received a monthly allowance of Thirty-Three Thousand Naira (N33,000).”
