Nigeria internationals Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi have signed short-term contracts to rejoin Kano Pillars for the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The players were spotted training at the former champions’ facility on Thursday, gearing up for their NPFL match-day five home game against Sunshine Stars.
“Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, Nazir Laja, and the rest of the squad trained ahead of NPFL 2024/25 Matchday 5 clash against Sunshine Stars this weekend,” the club announced on X on Friday.
Musa, 31, is making his third return to Pillars, having previously played for them from 2009 to 2010 and again from 2014 to 2021. Meanwhile, Abdullahi will be representing Pillars for the second time, as he had a previous stint with the club in 2012.
Abdullahi has been without a club since January 2023, while Musa ended his contract with Turkish side Sivasspor in February. Although the summer transfer window for the NPFL 2024/25 has closed, both Super Eagles players can join the team as free agents.
NPFL head of competitions, Sunday Obaseki, confirmed this to our correspondent when Musa hinted at his return to the Nigerian top flight.
“Yes, he can be registered. Ahmed Musa will be on the Transfer Matching System, so he won’t have a problem,” Obaseki stated.
Current NPFL champions Rangers International had shown interest in signing the Super Eagles captain before he returned to his former club.
During Musa’s initial season at Pillars in 2009, he finished as the top scorer with 18 goals before moving to VVV Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie. His European career includes stints at CSKA Moscow and Leicester City, followed by a move to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Nassr.
