The Ogun State Police Command has announced that it is actively searching for the killers of Adeleke Adeyinka, a councillorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Adeyinka, who was running for the councillorship position in Ward 15, Abeokuta South Local Government Area, in the upcoming November 16 local government elections, was reportedly shot and killed by suspected cultists in the early hours of Saturday.

Sources revealed that the assailants arrived in an unmarked vehicle, shot Adeyinka at close range, and then brutally smashed his head with stones to ensure he was dead. The 40-year-old victim was known to be a transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and stated that the police have begun an investigation into the murder. She added that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene. Odutola also confirmed that Adeyinka’s body has been released to his family.
