FRSC Targets Fake Diplomatic Plates in Nationwide Crackdown
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has ordered an immediate crackdown on vehicles using fake diplomatic and unauthorized number plates across Nigeria.
In a statement by FRSC Public Education Officer, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed highlighted that these fraudulent plates, including inscriptions like “DIPLOMATIC NUMBER PLATES, NYCN, PEACE AMBASSADOR, NAUS, CYMS, UN-UNITY 01, UN-AMB, NANS, and others, pose a serious threat to national security.
“These fake plates are not produced by FRSC-authorized plants or issued by state Motor Licensing Authorities. They are often linked to criminal activities,” the FRSC Chief stated.
To curb the menace, the Corps has launched tactical enforcement nationwide to seize vehicles with these unauthorized plates and prosecute offenders. Mohammed urged the public to report anyone using such plates and warned vehicle owners to desist from using them immediately.
The FRSC will collaborate with other security agencies to trace the sources of the fake plates and bring perpetrators to justice, ensuring that no accomplice escapes prosecution.
