Katsina Police Nab Bank Staff, ATM Fraudster in Multi-Million Naira Scandals
The Katsina State Police Command has unveiled two major fraud cases involving individuals exploiting banking systems to steal millions.
In the first case, Adewumi Gabriel, the Head of ATM Operations at a Daura branch of a new generation bank, was paraded for allegedly conspiring with a colleague, David Mesioye (still at large), to siphon N18 million from a customer’s account. Police recovered N10.18 million from Gabriel’s accounts, along with N366,900 in cash and other valuables. The fraud came to light during an internal audit.
In a separate incident, police apprehended 37-year-old Bishir Abdullahi at an ATM in Katsina for possessing 14 stolen ATM cards. Abdullahi, a suspected fraudster, reportedly swapped victims’ cards and withdrew N2.7 million from their accounts. He was arrested following suspicious behavior at an old-generation bank branch in Tudun Katsira.
Both suspects are set to face legal action upon the completion of investigations.
