Rivers Political Rift: Wike and Fubara Snub Each Other at Presidential Villa Meeting
Tensions remain high between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike despite a recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to sources, Wike and Fubara, who were both part of an Ogoni delegation visiting the President to discuss oil production, notably avoided each other during the meeting. Despite posing for a group photo, there were no greetings or pleasantries exchanged between the two.
This incident comes on the heels of Wike’s public declaration that reconciliation with Governor Fubara is unlikely while the current political crisis persists.
Meanwhile, the pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF) has intervened, appointing a peace committee led by former Akwa Ibom Governor Victor Attah to mediate between the two leaders. PANDEF urged both Wike and Fubara to seize this opportunity to end the ongoing conflict and allow Rivers State to move forward.
