Rhodes-Vivour Demands Transparency on Controversial $100 Million Dangote Land Deal in Ibeju Lekki, Slams Judicial Decision and Displacement of Indigenous Communities
Former Lagos State gubernatorial candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, of the Labour Party (LP), has called for transparency and accountability over a controversial $100 million land acquisition deal between Dangote Industries and the Lagos State government in Ibeju Lekki, which has displaced indigenous communities.
In a statement, Rhodes-Vivour condemned a recent judicial decision that seems to validate the displacement. He expressed deep concern, stating, “I’m deeply saddened by this decision as it will allow the land grabbing and stealing of lands belonging to indigenous Lagosians without compensation to continue unchecked. It is both criminal and unacceptable.”
He also criticized the city’s development pattern, which he believes consistently benefits elite interests over local communities, pointing out that the government’s actions only exacerbate inequality and force communities into poverty. Rhodes-Vivour called for a fundamental change in how development projects are carried out in Lagos.
