Lagos, Nigeria – Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo, a prominent nationalist and elder statesman, passed away peacefully at his Lekki, Lagos residence on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 96. His family confirmed the news in a statement, noting his lifelong dedication to a just and progressive Nigeria.
A distinguished lawyer and former organizing secretary of the Action Group, Chief Adebanjo led the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere. He is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family statement emphasized his unwavering commitment to truth, equity, and justice, highlighting his tireless advocacy for an independent Nigeria. Funeral arrangements are underway, with details to be released soon. Condolence registers have been opened at his Lekki residence and his country home in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State.
