NECO Blacklists 14 Examination Centres for Malpractice in Ogun and Oyo, Announces 2024 Results with Significant Decrease in Exam Malpractice Cases
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has blacklisted 14 examination centres for involvement in malpractice across nine subjects. The centres, located in Ogun and Oyo states, have been flagged for engaging in widespread cheating. Of these, 10 centres are in Ogun State, while 4 are in Oyo.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced this on Friday during a media briefing at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, where the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (External) results were released.
Prof. Wushishi revealed that the names of the implicated centres and supervisors will be shared with other examination bodies for further action. A total of 6,169 candidates were caught for malpractice, showing a 27.7% decrease from last year’s 8,518 cases.
Seven supervisors from Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi states have also been recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, tardiness, and facilitating malpractice.
In terms of results, 86,067 candidates registered for the exam, with 84,799 sitting for it. Among them, 75.62% passed English Language with credits or above, and 93.94% passed Mathematics with five credits or more. Meanwhile, 63.35% of candidates achieved five credits, including English and Mathematics, while 83.39% secured five credits overall.
The Federal Ministry of Education has directed that the names of the blacklisted centres and supervisors be sent to sister examination bodies such as JAMB and WAEC for additional sanctions.
