Tragedy in Kwara: 29-Year-Old Islamic Cleric Arrested for Luring 25-Year-Old Student Through Facebook, Killing and Dismembering Her After Invitation to His Home
ILORIN – The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old Islamic teacher, Abdulrahman Bello, for allegedly killing and dismembering a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Yetunde Lawal.
Police reports indicate that Bello connected with 25-year-old Lawal on Facebook and invited her to his residence via phone on February 10, 2025. Lawal was last seen after leaving a naming ceremony that day.
Her father, Ibrahim A. Lawal, reported her missing on February 11, prompting an urgent police investigation. Officers tracked her phone and identified Bello as the last known contact. Initially denying involvement, the suspect later confessed, claiming she died of an asthma attack. However, police later discovered Lawal’s dismembered body parts in a bowl at a location in Ganmo, on the outskirts of Ilorin.
Confirming the arrest, Kwara Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
