NDLEA Cracks Down on Drug Trafficking, Seizes Multi-Million Naira Worth of Tramadol, Other Illicit Substances
KEFFI, NASARAWA STATE – In a major victory against drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a trans-border drug syndicate, apprehending four suspects and seizing a significant quantity of tramadol pills valued at millions of naira. The drugs were concealed in vehicle bumpers and false compartments.
According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the operation began on Tuesday, January 27, 2025, at 6 a.m. when operatives intercepted a vehicle along the Nasarawa-Toto Road in Keffi. Two suspects, Zahradeen Adamu, 27, and Abubakar Usman, 44, were arrested in the vehicle traveling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Yola, Adamawa State. A subsequent search revealed 190,960 tramadol pills hidden in specially constructed compartments within the vehicle’s rear bumper and spare tire compartment.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Kingsley Mbaeri, the Onitsha-based supplier of the tramadol, on January 29. Two additional vehicles were recovered from his residence.
In a series of other operations, the NDLEA seized methamphetamine, Loud (a potent strain of cannabis), dimethyl sulfone, codeine-based syrup, and skunk in separate incidents across the country. These seizures occurred in locations including the Federal Capital Territory, Cross River, Lagos, Borno, Ekiti, and Taraba States, resulting in several arrests. Notably, a raid in Lekki, Lagos, led to the arrest of a 28-year-old woman and the recovery of nitrous oxide and Loud.
