Senate President’s Wife Sues Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for ₦251 Billion Over Defamation and Rights Violation Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has filed two lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, over alleged defamation and violation of fundamental human rights.

The legal action follows Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims that her challenges in the Senate began after rejecting alleged sexual advances from the Senate President.

In the first suit (CV/814/25), Mrs. Akpabio accused the senator of making false and damaging statements, causing emotional distress to her and her children. She is seeking ₦250 billion in damages and a court declaration that her rights to dignity were violated.

In a separate defamation suit (CV/816/25), she challenged the senator’s allegations against her husband, calling them malicious and damaging to her family’s reputation. She is demanding ₦1 billion in damages and a public apology in The Guardian and ThisDay newspapers.

The dispute began when Akpoti-Uduaghan protested the sudden change of her Senate seat, leading to a referral to the Senate Committee on Ethics for investigation.

In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan filed a ₦100 billion defamation lawsuit against Akpabio and his aide, Mfon Patrick, over a social media post she described as derogatory.

The controversy escalated when Akpoti-Uduaghan appeared on Arise Television, accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment. However, Mrs. Akpabio dismissed the claims as false, asserting that her husband is a disciplined man who respects women.

The court has yet to set a hearing date for the cases.
