Osun Government Petitions EFCC, Alleges Former Governor Oyetola Mismanaged $20M World Bank Health Grant, Violated Procurement Laws, Awarded Contracts to Unqualified Firms, and Laundered Over ₦1.5 Billion Through Local Government Accounts
Osun State Government has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Blue Economy, for alleged misappropriation of a $20 million World Bank health grant. The petition, dated March 7, 2025, accuses Oyetola of money laundering, financial misconduct, and violations of the Public Procurement Act.
The petition alleges that Oyetola, as head of a special Health Intervention Committee, oversaw the allocation of the grant, which was intended for health sector improvements. The committee decided to renovate 320 primary health care centers. However, the government claims that the contracts were awarded without proper bidding processes, instead going to individuals and companies linked to Oyetola’s associates, including food vendors, salon owners, and web designers, some of which had no construction experience. These companies allegedly delivered substandard work despite receiving full payments.
Additionally, the petition alleges that over ₦1.5 billion was laundered through the Osun chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) between January and October 2022. The government claims funds were repeatedly transferred from the ALGON account to a private account, and then withdrawn in cash without proper documentation.
Former Commissioner Adebayo Adeleke dismissed the allegations as frivolous, stating that he has not been contacted by the EFCC and has not seen the petition. He accused the current administration of attempting to tarnish his reputation.
