Naira Marley Urges Court to Investigate Mohbad’s Wife and 14 Others Present Before Singer’s Death, Denies Any Involvement

LAGOS – Nigerian artist Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has called on the court to investigate Omowunmi, the wife of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad), along with 14 others who were present at his residence 48-72 hours before his passing.

Speaking via a virtual testimony before Coroner T.A. Shotobi in Ikorodu, Lagos, Naira Marley, through his lawyer Olusola Okuwobi, stated that he was out of the country at the time of Mohbad’s death. He also denied any animosity toward the late singer.

The testimony, delivered on Friday and released on Sunday, emphasized that the coroner should shift focus from suspects identified by the police and social media to those who were physically present before Mohbad’s demise.

Okuwobi further noted that Naira Marley accused those present of attempting to cover up the incident by circulating an old video, despite knowing Mohbad had already apologized and left his former record label, Marlian Music.

Meanwhile, the Concerned Nigeria Citizens in Diaspora have urged the police to re-investigate Mohbad’s death, particularly questioning his wife, Omowunmi, and his brother, Adura Aloba, over inconsistencies in their accounts.

Mohbad, a former Marlian Music signee, passed away on September 12 at the age of 27. Prior to his death, he had alleged assaults by associates of Naira Marley, including music promoter Samson Eletu (Sam Larry). However, a court ruling on February 25 acquitted Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and others linked to the case.

Efforts to obtain comments from Omowunmi’s legal representative, Taiwo Olawanle, were unsuccessful as a text message inquiry remained unanswered at the time of filing this report.
