Kano Police Prohibit 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Durbar Citing Security Threats, Warn Against Disorderly Conduct, and Urge Public Vigilance for a Peaceful Celebration

The Kano State Police Command has prohibited all Durbar activities for the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations, citing security threats and the need to maintain public order.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori announced the decision during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday. He revealed that intelligence reports warned of plans by certain groups to exploit the event for disruptive activities.

“After consultations with the Kano State Government and key stakeholders, we have decided to suspend all Durbar activities this year,” Bakori stated.

The Durbar, a historic cultural procession featuring royal horse displays, is a highlight of Sallah festivities in Kano. However, authorities say public safety concerns necessitated the ban.

Bakori assured residents of tightened security measures and urged compliance with safety guidelines during Eid prayers. He also warned against reckless behaviors such as horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and disorderly conduct.

Parents were advised to prevent children from being used for unrest, while residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities.

While some Kano residents expressed disappointment, others see the move as necessary. The state government has yet to officially comment on the decision.
