The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has levied a substantial fine of N628 million on eight electricity distribution companies (DisCos) for violating monthly energy caps imposed for unmetered customers. The sanctions, announced by the Commission today, stem from non-compliance observed between July and September 2024.

The affected DisCos are Abuja, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola Electricity Distribution Companies.

NERC has mandated that these DisCos issue credit adjustments to all impacted unmetered customers by the deadline of May 15, 2025. This action underscores the regulator’s commitment to protecting electricity consumers from overbilling.
