JAMB Clarifies UTME Guidelines, Says Candidates Can Register and Sit for Exams in Any State Across Nigeria
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has debunked claims that candidates must sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) only in the state where they registered.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the board described the report as misleading and urged the public to disregard it.
According to Benjamin, candidates are free to register for the UTME in any part of the country and choose any town nationwide to sit for the exam.
“There is no restriction whatsoever. A candidate can register in Lagos and choose to take the exam in Sokoto or any other town in the country,” he clarified.
He explained that the board clusters its Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres by towns, allowing candidates to select their preferred location during registration.
“For example, if a candidate selects Garki as their exam town, they must take the exam in Garki and not in a different town. This system is put in place for ease and convenience,” he said.
Benjamin added that JAMB’s policy is designed to give candidates flexibility and prevent unnecessary hardship.
He called on candidates and the general public to ignore the erroneous report, stressing that it could mislead and cause confusion among prospective candidates.
