The palace of the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, on Monday announced the indefinite suspension of Chief Jimoh Kabir, the Loogun of Ede, over allegations of land grabbing and insubordination.

According to a statement issued by the Timi’s palace and made available to News Review, the suspension was approved by the Timi-in-Council, the town’s highest traditional decision-making body, following several complaints against the chief.

“The Timi-in-Council, the highest traditional body in Edeland, has suspended Chief Jimoh Kabir as the Loogun of Edeland,” the statement read. “The decision followed a series of allegations including illegal land grabbing, consistent disregard for law and order, and disrespect for the authority of His Majesty, the Timi of Edeland.”

The Council described the chief’s conduct as unbecoming of a royal subject, noting that previous efforts to caution him were unsuccessful. The statement further emphasized that the suspension would remain in force until further notice.

In a strong warning to other traditional title holders, the Timi-in-Council cautioned against abuse of office, stressing its commitment to restoring integrity and order to the traditional institution in Ede.

“The Council warns all other chiefs not to let the privileges of their positions lead to misconduct or the oppression of citizens,” it stated.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach Chief Jimoh Kabir for a reaction were unsuccessful, as calls to his line were not answered and he had yet to respond to a text message sent by News Review.
