Two Women Arrested in Owerri While Attempting to Sell Kidnapped 4-Year-Old Boy Abducted in Abuja for ₦2.7 Million

The Imo State Police Command has arrested two women in Owerri while attempting to sell a kidnapped four-year-old boy for ₦2.7 million.

The boy, identified as Jaffa Umar, was reportedly abducted in Abuja while hawking vegetables and brought to Owerri to be sold before the suspects were apprehended.

Police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, in a statement on Thursday, confirmed the arrest of Joy Ugwu from Idah, Kogi State, and Rosella Michael from Zamba, Abuja. A third suspect, believed to be a nurse, is currently on the run.

According to Okoye, operatives of the Scorpion Unit intercepted the suspects around 6:00 p.m. on April 14, 2025, during a discreet operation. The suspects were allegedly negotiating to sell the boy when they were caught.

The rescue was the result of a coordinated effort between the Imo State Police Command and the Zone 7 Police Headquarters in Abuja. The child has since been reunited with his family, while the arrested suspects have been transferred to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, assured the public of continued efforts to dismantle trafficking networks and urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or call the emergency line 0803 477 3600.
