The Federal Government has received 30 hybrid Jet Mover buses from Jet Motor Company as part of efforts to improve the nation’s transportation sector.
The buses, which run on compressed natural gas (CNG) and premium motor spirit (PMS), are intended to offer Nigerians affordable and comfortable transportation options.
The handover ceremony took place at Jet Motor Company’s plant in Ajah, Lagos State, and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Finance and representatives of the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas. Dimas Hamidu, the Technical Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, praised the quality of the vehicles and commended the company’s efforts.
He emphasized that the hybrid vehicles demonstrate President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to easing the hardships that may have resulted from the removal of fuel subsidies.
Hamidu noted that these vehicles would significantly address the country’s transportation needs and help mitigate the economic impact of rising costs. “I am pleased with what I’ve seen here. This will greatly alleviate the pain and suffering caused by the removal of fuel subsidies,” he said.
“I visited earlier with the Minister of Finance, and we toured the plant. The minister even drove one of the vehicles and was highly impressed.”
He further mentioned that the Federal Government had awarded contracts to various companies to supply CNG vehicles in different quantities.
“There were concerns from Nigerians about not seeing these vehicles on the roads.
This prompted the Ministry of Finance to tour the factories and their facilities to assess the delivery timelines. We are satisfied with Jet Motor’s adherence to the contract terms, and the vehicles meet the required specifications,” he stated.
He added,
“We hope to be invited soon to receive more of these vehicles that the president can utilize to ease the nation’s transportation challenges.”
Jet Motor Company’s Managing Director, Derek Ewelukwa, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of an efficient and comfortable transportation model for the country’s citizens.
He detailed that each hybrid vehicle is equipped with two CNG tanks with a combined capacity of 220 liters of gas, capable of covering 300 kilometers, and an 80-liter petrol tank.
Ewelukwa also mentioned that the CNG tanks have a lifespan of 15 years and that the engine transitions seamlessly between gas and petrol.
