ASABA — A member of the House of Representatives from Delta State, Mr. Ngozi Okolie, has officially defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing unresolved internal crises within the LP.

Okolie, who represents the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency and defeated PDP’s Ndudi Elumelu in the 2023 general elections, announced his defection while addressing journalists on Friday in Asaba.

According to the lawmaker, the decision to join the APC was influenced by the disarray within the Labour Party and a desire to better serve his constituents.

“A lot of people are resigning from their parties and moving to the APC. I’ve decided to do the same,” Okolie stated. “Labour Party is currently disorganised, with no clear direction. Staying in such a party won’t allow me to make meaningful progress in the National Assembly.”

He added that aligning with the APC would give him a better platform to attract projects and development to his constituency.

“I have consulted traditional rulers and key members of my constituency. Though I couldn’t reach everyone, that’s why I’m speaking to you—the media—to help get the message across,” he said.

Okolie noted that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other prominent political figures in Delta had also switched to the APC, reinforcing his decision to align with the ruling party.

With two years left in his tenure, Okolie believes joining the APC is the best move for the interest of his people.
