Mr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa, counsel to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has confirmed that her legal team has received details of a suit filed against her by the Federal Government and is prepared to present credible evidence during trial.
According to West-Idahosa, the suit was served at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, within the premises of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
The suit, marked CR/297/25 and filed by the Federal Government on May 16, 2025, accuses Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of “making imputations knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person.”
The case stems from her recent suspension from the Senate following a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements in the Red Chamber. The senator subsequently accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and petitioned both the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), calling for an investigation into the matter.
The statement from West-Idahosa reads: “At about 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, in the premises of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, we received the information filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), containing three counts bordering on allegations against our client.”
