The Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has announced that the completed section of Phase I, Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway covering 30 kilometers out of the total 750 kilometers will be officially commissioned today Saturday, May 31, 2025.
According to the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Uchenna Orji, the commissioning ceremony will be held at KM 8 of the project, near the Jakande Estate area in Lagos State.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to virtually commission the project, along with other completed Renewed Hope signature projects across Southern Nigeria.
These include the Ahmadu Bello Way to Eleko Village stretch in Lekki Peninsula, the dualization of the East-West Road Section II (Sub-section I) from Eleme Junction to Ahoada in Rivers State, the rehabilitated Lagos-Ibadan dual carriageway, the restored Alesi–Ugep section in Cross River State, and the reconstructed collapsed Enugu Bridge at New Artisan Market along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Road.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway was a vision initiated by President Tinubu 27 years ago to transform Nigeria’s transportation network. It aims to enhance connectivity across nine coastal states, foster regional integration, and drive sustainable development.
“Today, as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a dream conceived has become a dream actualized,” Engr. Umahi stated.
